Privacy Policy
Effective Date: June 12, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to FolderXD. Your privacy is critically important to us. We built FolderXD with a strict "privacy-first" and "local-by-default" approach. This Privacy Policy outlines how your data is handled when you use the FolderXD Chrome Extension to organize your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Keep, and other web applications, including the optional Cloud Sync feature.
2. Data Collection and Usage
FolderXD does not collect, transmit, distribute, or sell any of your personal data without your explicit action.
To provide its core functionality, FolderXD saves the following information:
- The URLs of the web pages you choose to save.
- The titles of those web pages.
- Your custom folder names, organization structure, and folder color preferences.
- Your active Google account email, so switching between a work and personal account always shows the right set of folders. By default, this is stored locally on your device only, never transmitted, and never used for anything beyond folder separation.
By default, all of the information above is stored entirely on your local device. Because FolderXD does not require an account or login for its free, local-only features, we have no way to identify you, and we do not track your browsing history or activity outside of the files you explicitly add to your FolderXD folders.
3. Local Storage & Offline Design
By default, all data generated or saved using FolderXD stays exclusively on your computer. It is stored securely in your browser's local storage. Your data never leaves your device, is never uploaded to the cloud, and is never sent to our servers or any third-party servers, unless you explicitly enable the optional Cloud Sync feature described below. FolderXD's core features work entirely offline.
4. Optional Cloud Sync (Premium Feature)
FolderXD offers an optional, paid Cloud Sync feature that allows you to back up your folders and saved files to the cloud and retrieve them on other devices and browsers.
Cloud Sync is entirely optional and fully manual. No automatic background sync. Instead, the FolderXD interface shows two buttons, "Sync" and "Fetch", and the extension only communicates with our cloud servers when you press one of these buttons. The free version of FolderXD remains fully functional without any cloud functionality, and all of your data continues to be stored locally in your browser's local storage with no multi-device sync.
Here is what each button does, and what you should know about Cloud Sync:
- "Sync" button: Pressing "Sync" uploads your current local folders and files (names, colors, organization structure, URLs, titles, etc.) to your cloud backup, overwriting the previous cloud backup for your account with your current local data.
- "Fetch" button: Pressing "Fetch" downloads your previously synced folders and files from the cloud and applies them to this browser, for example after reinstalling the extension or when setting up a new device or browser.
- Data is only sent to, or retrieved from, our cloud servers when you explicitly press "Sync" or "Fetch". FolderXD does not perform any cloud sync automatically or in the background.
- We do not sync the content of your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Keep, or any other web pages, only the links and titles you have added to FolderXD.
- Cloud Sync requires a monthly premium subscription. Subscription and payment information is processed by our payment provider Polar.sh.
- Deleting a folder or file locally also removes it from your cloud backup the next time you sync. When you delete a folder or file, FolderXD marks it as a pending change and shows a yellow dot on the "Sync" button. The next time you press "Sync", FolderXD sends a request to delete that folder or file from the database, keeping your cloud backup in line with your local storage.
- Because Cloud Sync has no separate on/off setting, the simplest way to stop using it is to never press "Sync" or "Fetch" again; FolderXD will continue to operate entirely from local storage. If you would like your existing cloud backup removed entirely, you may request deletion of all your cloud-synced data at any time by contacting us using the details in the "Contact Us" section below.
5. Chrome Extension Permissions
To function correctly, FolderXD requests the following Chrome browser permissions:
Storage:
This permission is strictly used to save your folders, file links (URLs and titles), and folder colors to your browser's local storage.
Unlimited Storage (Future Update):
The standard storage permission is limited to 10MB. To allow you to create unlimited folders and store unlimited files without running out of space, FolderXD will request the "unlimitedStorage" permission. This simply removes the 10MB local limit; it does not change the fact that, by default, your data remains 100% local unless you enable Cloud Sync.
sidePanel (side panel):
FolderXD uses the sidePanel permission to display a persistent folder management interface alongside Google Workspace apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Keep). Currently, this panel allows you to quickly enable or disable the extension and send feedback. While we plan to add more functionality to this interface in the future, it remains strictly a user interface element. This permission does not grant the extension access to monitor or collect data from the websites you visit.
6. Third-Party Access
If you do not use Cloud Sync, your data is never transmitted over the internet or stored on external servers, and it is impossible for us to share, sell, or rent your information to third parties. Your data is accessible only by you, directly through your own web browser.
If you use Cloud Sync, your synced folder and file data is stored with our database provider, Supabase, solely for the purpose of providing the Cloud Sync feature to you. We do not sell or rent this data to third parties, and it is not used for advertising.
7. User Control and Data Deletion
You have complete control over your data. Because all information is stored locally by default, you can delete your folders, files, or all Extension data at any time directly through the FolderXD interface or by clearing your browser's local storage data. Uninstalling the FolderXD extension will also permanently remove all associated local data.
If you have used Cloud Sync, deleting a folder or file through the FolderXD interface and then pressing "Sync" (as described in Section 4) will also delete it from your cloud backup. However, uninstalling the extension or clearing local storage directly does not automatically delete your cloud-synced data, since this data is intended to be retrieved using "Fetch" on reinstall or on other devices. You can permanently delete your cloud-synced data and account by contacting us using the details in the "Contact Us" section below.
8. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our extension or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy.
